Metro Deco in Brighton |
In Brighton there are probably 101 places that do afternoon tea. I've been to a few places before and thought they were quite good, but I had heard amazing things about Metro Deco. It's described as a 1930s Parisian style Tea Salon and has an open door policy for dogs, they even hold dog parties. Metro Deco also has its own range of bespoke teas called MDTea.

Amazing afternoon tea spread |
I reserved a table for two, which was ready for when Jitender and I arrived. We were immediately led to our table by a really lovely, happy and smiley lady, who handed us the Tea menu so we could decide which tea we wanted.
When we first arrived (about 1pm) the tea salon seemed a bit empty, but soon after it filled up with a range of people and there dogs, giving the whole place such a lovely friendly atmosphere. The cafe itself is decorated with rich and luxurious vintage furniture which really adds to the Parision Tea Salon feel.
We decided to try a tea each. I have to say, it did take a while to choose as they had such an eclectic range of tea. I finally chose the Shades of Grey blend, which is an updated version of the traditional Earl Grey with a hint of Rose, it was delicious. Jitender went for the Graham Greene and Chocolate tea, which is a Chinese green tea blended with echinacea and cocoa shells. Despite being more of a coffee drinker, the feedback was extremely positive. The loose teas were served in individual tea pots and came with delicate vintage tea cups for us to drink from.
As well as our choice of tea we were brought over a three tier platter of open sandwiches, scones and a selection of cakes. Despite wanting to gorge on the cakes immediately, we decided to be grown up and sensible and start with the sandwiches, which I presumed to be the boring part. Oh how wrong I was!
There were 4 each; egg mayo, brie and tomato, ham and mustard and salmon and cucumber. The bread was fresh and the fillings were yummy, I'm not usually a huge fan of egg mayo but even these were making me salivate.
We then moved on to the scones, which were served with fresh blueberries and the usual jam and clotted cream. The scones were baked with a hint of orange in them, which was a lovely addition to the traditional dish. The scones were so yummy that I kept making 'mmmmmm' noises which apparently could be mistaken for something quite different!
By this point we were already starting to feel a bit full, but with the selection of cakes still in front of us we decided to eat on. The cakes were definitely worth it. The selection included some whoopie pies, moist chocolate brownies, mini eclairs and a lovely fruit sponge. I obviously demolished what was in front of me, but Jitender had to bow out leaving a whoopie pie.
Metro Deco also serves alcohol and we were treated to a glass of Presecco while we sat enjoying our surroundings.
If you live in Brighton or are visiting and would like to go to Afternoon Tea, I highly recommend a visit. I know that I will definitely be going again.
Love Lilla xx
Ah this looks so lovely! I've just got back from Paris and am craving some Parisian atmosphere so I love to pay Metro Deco a visit! Maybe when my boyfriend's mum comes to visit with her little pup! Glad you had a nice time :) xx
