LIFESTYLE | BST Hyde park Finished with my woman, because I'm easy like Sunday morning

Hubs, his friends and I met in a dirty metal/punk/rock club in Brighton that long since died. One of the things that pushed us from being random drunk people who started talking on a night out, to becoming friends, was a mutual love of alcohol, partying and our love of the genre.

While these 'alternative' forms of music often get glossed over as metal or rock, there is a massive range of music that falls under that bracket. While we both like 'Rock', per say, we both have very different tastes. Hubs likes music ranging from scandi-metal, classic rock and love metal, where as I like ska/punk and grunge. This means we sometimes have mixed views on each others favourite bands, and often don't go to gigs together.

When Hubs heard that Black Sabbath (one of his favourite bands) were going to be playing at Hyde Park he said he had to go. When I found out that Faith No More were also playing I was sold.
Faith No More were basically the soundtrack to my college and uni life. The final main stage line up was Black Sabbath, Soundgarden, Faith No More, Motorhead and Soulfly.

We headed up to London and after popping to Soho to have lunch at Diner, we walked to Hyde park. It was 4th July and the weather in London was sweltering, at points it was uncomfortably hot. Unfortunately we missed Soulfly and most of Motorhead, but we were ready and waiting for when Faith No More hit the stage.

I have been lucky enough to see Faith no More once before, at Download Festival several years ago and I can honestly say the thought of it still gives me shivers. That time they came on at twilight and that really added to the atmosphere and performance. I was almost afraid that this time would not live up to my expectations.

Thankfully I was wrong. Faith No More have been back in the studio and touring a lot since Download. This is really obvious, at Download I felt honoured to be seeing one of the most influential bands of my life, they could have forgotten the words and I would have been happy. But this time, there was a lot more energy, they sounded a lot tighter and it was great to hear some their new stuff.

Soundgarden followed Faith No more and while we did watch most of it, we took the time to wonder around Hyde Park and get something to drink. I have to admit the whole park was set up much better than I had expected. The main area was lined with bars disguised by various wooden buildings. Instead of the usually burger vans, there was a range of great food, from chicken wings, to yummy looking pies. They even had a champagne bar and a temporary old pub!

By the time Sabbath came on the sun had started to go down, it wasn't long until the rain started to pour down, almost as if they had planned it to build atmosphere. When Ozzy walked out he was surprisingly coherent, I guess in my mind he was still the mumbling oldie from The Osbournes.

Seeing Black Sabbath was never something of high priority to me, but I actually quite enjoyed it and am glad that I have seen them.

Who would be at your dream gig?

LIFESTYLE | Five Tickets I Need To Buy Now

In keeping with my New Years Resolution of socialising more I have been keeping my eye on upcoming gigs and shows that I would like to go to. I have managed to come up with my top five which are as follows.

Little Mix

I am not afraid to say that I love Little Mix. The year they won Xfactor was the last time I watched the show past the audition stage and from the second they started performing I was hooked! When I was in school my friends and I formed a girl band and Little Mix is basically what we saw ourselves being. A homage to girl in a way - unlike the Saturdays or Girls Aloud, who in my opinion are super sexy (not a bad thing), Little Mix are a girls, girl band. I was lucky enough to see them with my family on the XFactor tour and would love to see them again in their own show. Little Mix are going to be at the O2 in May.

English National Opera - The Pearl Fishers

The Opera is something that I have a peripheral interest in, I studied performing arts at college and promoted some opera shows in Spain while I was working out there during UNI. My grandad also worked on some projects with opera stars during his career as well so I've watched a few DVDs too. The great thing about opera, apart from the powerful voices, is the passion and the stage presence which means that generally you can easily follow the plot even if you don't understand the language they are singing in. The Pearl Fishers ENO production starts in June.

Black Sabbath Time

I guess I am really showing off the range in my music tastes! One of Hub's favorite bands is Black Sabbath, one of mine is Faith No More and the rest of the bands playing are worth seeing too - especially Gallows - they are one of my favorite live bands to see. Black Sabbath Time is in July.

Reading Festival

Reading Festival was one of the first Festivals that I ever went to. I went for five years in a row until Download festival became a bit more up my street. However, the line up at Reading this year is really good, it's mirrors my wider music taste. My highlights would be Pendulum, Paramore and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

The Great Escape

The Great Escape is a festival held in Brighton at multiple venues that showcases a lot of new talents as well as some more established acts like Kelis and Example. Last years line up included Tom Odell and Bo Bruce. This year I'd like to see Charli XCXC, Gnarlwolves and Syd Arthur.

Is there anything that you are looking to go to? I would love to hear!

FASHION | Saturday Catch Up

Sorry I've been a bit quiet this week, I've been so active at work, and have been arranging some really exciting blog opportunities that I will be publishing in the next week or so.

Anyway last week I was lucky enough to be invited to an exclusive Fashion & Music Showcase, hosted by online talent community beOnTheScene.com. Unfortunately I already had arrangements and couldn't attend but thought I would share the above images from the event.

The showcase started with a runway show, displaying designs by emerging deigners; Laura Moore, Agnes Mira Rose, Victoria Lee and Marjorie Renner.

After the runway DJ Gustavo Co will keep guests entertained with his mix of beats & tunes until 2.00am.

So gutted I couldn't go :(
