Step 1: Look Through What I Currently Own
Don’t just go shopping blindly with no idea of what you already have. I’ve made the mistake of doing this before only to realise I have similar items when I get home. I look at what may need replacing and what I’m keeping so I know exactly what I want to buy. If there’s a lot of old stuff I don’t want, I’ll take it down to Cash for Clothes or sell it on eBay so I have more money for shopping! If I can’t bear to get rid of an item, I’ll consider customising it first.
Step 2: Make a List
Lists help me to feel more organised, so I’ll always take a shopping list with me. I’ll write down things I’m considering buying too, and put a question mark by them so I know what I might be looking for.

Step 3: Set a Budget
Going shopping without a budget can be dangerous. If you fail to work out how much you’re allowing yourself to spend, then you could end up with a very unhappy bank balance at the end of the day. Work out your incomings and outgoings for the month and decide what you can spend on your new items. I don’t usually like to buy too much at one time, as soon enough all of the next season items come in and I want to buy those too! I literally buy what I deem to be essential and keep my budget as low as I can. The less I spend, the more shopping trips I can allow myself!
Step 4: Search the Sales
I don’t look at the new stuff right away: I search the sales first. Just because something is in the sale, doesn’t mean it’s obsolete. In fact, I always find great things in the sale at bargain prices. With catalogue sites like Clothing Sale, you can find items of different brands all in one place. Who doesn’t love a good sale? It takes a keen eyesight but it’ll be worth it when you come home with a ton of bargains!
Step 5: Compare Online
If you find something you like that isn’t in the sale, see if you can find similar items online. Chances are, many of the high street retailers will have something similar. This way, you can find the style and price you find most appealing. This will save you money in the long run, as well as heartache when you realise you could have found a better style!
