It's no secret that I am regularly dieting or trying to eat healthily (and failing). I've finally made a serious decision to no longer try fad shake diets, for me they just aren't worth it. However, trying to eat healthily or be calorie aware is important.
One of my big food problems is I'm just so lazy most of the time. I do go through stages where I plan and sometimes prepare food for the month ahead and I am super good and everything is fine. But more often from not I get home from work and there is little food in my fridge. Actually, this is a lie, I always have plenty of food, but it's not always easy to combine into a quick meal. Or I just don't want to cook. This is where most people reach for a ready meal.
In my house we very rarely eat ready meals (surprising considering my last sentence), they just end up sitting in the freezer taking up space and are tasteless and calorific. Those that aren't are usually quite expensive too.
I've found the solutions, Saints and Slimmers. While they do have a VLCD, for me their saving grace is their ready meals. You can buy a multi-pack of 7 ready meals, a bit like a pick'n'mix, for £19.99 (£2.86 each). They have the following options:
- Beef Lasagne diet ready meal (390 cals)
- Chicken Korma diet ready meal (480 cals)
- Chicken Satay diet ready meal (473 cals)
- Chicken Tikka Masala diet ready meal (499 cals)
- Chilli Con Carne diet ready meal (416 cals)
- Spaghetti Bolognese diet ready meal (375 cals)
- Sweet and Sour Chicken diet ready meal (461 cals)
Having previously received similar meals I didn't hold out hope. I started off with the Spaghetti Bolognese - usually a few hard pieces of pasta and a very low amount of meat. So imagine my joy when this not only was filling, filled with meat and plenty of spaghetti, but actually had a tast, and a good on at that!
The Lasange was equally meaty, creamy and tasty, but for me the best meal was the Chicken Satay, something I love but have never associated with low fat.
I would really recommend keeping these as a backup meal - they don't need to be refrigerated or frozen (yes you read that right) and thy have a long lifespan. However, they do have a high amount of salt in them ( to preserve them as they are additive free).
