LIFESTYLE | London Ice Bar - BRRRR It's cold in here..

 

I briefly worked in the travel sector. Whilst doing so came across an article about an ice hotel, where, if you hadn't guessed, everything is made out of ice. The idea completely intrigued me. Before I met Joe his love for Finnish music (H.I.M, Hanoi Rocks, The 69 Eyes) lead him and his friends to Helsinki in winter - we are talking 1 hours daylight, where they visited an Ice Bar, which given the temperature is not that surprising.

Fast forward a few years and Joe and I are given the opportunity to visit the London Ice Bar, a year-round bar, kept at -5c, which is renovated every September and built with ice imported from the Torne River in North Sweden.

Before entering the ice bar we sat in the 'warm bar' ready for our slot - each slot is 40 minutes long. We were then kitted out in thermal blue ponchos with an elegant white fur trim and mitten so we could hold our cocktail glasses, obviously also made out if ice.

As you can see taking pictures inside wasn't too easy due to the black light, so forgive the pictures! The cocktails they serve are rather vast and as you keep your ice glass any subsequent glasses are cheaper than the first. Joe went for the bourbon cocktails, which isn't surprising as it's his favourite spirit! I, on the other hand, inspired by the Ice Pineapple, went for the Pineapple Express followed by the Prime Mover which tasted like a warm apple pie! I'd definitely recommend it!

My Icebar experience was awesome, I feel like I have ticked off something on my mental bucket list! If you are looking for something different to do I would say do it!
