FOOD | Afternoon Tea at Food For Friends

In Brighton we have several great vegetarian/vegan restaurants, apart from going to a few with my friends in my teens, I'm not really big on the scene. Not really by choice, but because Hubs is a typical man's man, who doesn't think a meal is a meal without meat, whereas I am a lot more open to dining sans-meat.

I've wanted to go to Food For Friends for a while, so when I saw they offered afternoon tea I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take Hubs along!

When we arrived we were greeted by the very polite and charming maitre d', who showed us to our table by the window (view above) which is the perfect place to people watch, which I love to do! The afternoon tea includes a slice of homemade cake and a pot of tea for £5.95 (or with coffee/hot chocolate for an additional 50p) and includes a choice of fourteen different teas ranging from the more tradition English Breakfast tea to the more interesting Chocolat flake tea! I wasn't feeling particularly adventurous so we went with the Breakfast tea (mmmmm).

There was a choice of 5 cakes, which made it very difficult to decide what to have. I was tempted by the scones, but ended up ordering the Warm Almond and Rhubarb cake and I am pleased to say that I made the right decision. The presentation of the deserts was stunning - I love the contrast of the black slate against the white of the sauce, and equally the white square plate against the chocolate sauce. I was unsure about the Rhubarb when I first saw it, but it was delicious and I ate it all! The cake was warm and moist, without the Almond being too overwhelming.

Hubs went for the Warm Gooey Chocolate Brownie with Chocolate sauce. It was served with vanilla ice cream and strawberries - the mouthful I tried was tasty - not too sweet or too rich. Hubs finished it off without a word, which tends to be a very good sign!

With hubs slightly more open to vegetarian restaurants I will definitely be visiting Food for Friends again for a main  - if the desert is anything to go by I will throughly enjoy it!

Would you go to a vegitarian or vegan restaurant despite being an meat eater?
