Lifestyle | Edinburgh adventures Part 1 #bloggerlodge

Joe and I were given the opportunity to review the Princes Street Travelodge in Edinburgh as part of the #BloggerLodge campaign.
Neither of us had ever been to Scotland, but everyone always raves about Edinburgh, especially in August when the Fringe festival is on. As this coincided with our second wedding anniversary, it seemed like the perfect time to go.
The Princes Street hotel is located in the centre of the city, you are 2 minutes from the main shopping street, great Fringe festival venues and a 15 minute walk to Edinburgh castle. Although, it is currently having work done on the exterior of the building, it's not something that will interfere with your stay. If you are big on Hotel breakfasts, I would recommend staying at a different hotel, as this one only offers pre-packaged continental. This isn't a real issue, as the hotel is so central you can just go somewhere for breakfast (there is a McDonalds and a Wetherspoons nearby).

The room was nice, with massive windows, a lovely bed, small tv and most importantly, a kettle - I take tea very seriously!

After checking in and dropping off our bags we went to explore Edinburgh town, everywhere we walked there was something going on due to Fringe. We quickly came across the Hard Rock cafe and popped in for some drinks and Heavy Metal wings - as per our traveling traditions (we've been to Marbella and Amsterdam restaurants and plan to go to the Prague one - oddly never been to the one in London!)

We then continued our walk around the city center, discovering the prettiest and nicest Wetherspoons ever. We were actually recommended it by one of Joes friends, it's a stunning building, that used to be a bank many, many moons ago. We then popped along to Las Iguanas for cocktails and dinner.

With full bellies and feeling slightly tipsy we continued to explore the buzzing fringe nightlife, finding the Edinburgh International Book Festival. This quick exploration was more for my benefit than Joes, who isn't really a keen reader. I was also gutted to see that we had just missed a signing with Carol Ann Duffy earlier in the day.

We ended the night trying to get into Kieran Hodgson's Lance show, which had rave reviews, but after queuing we just missed getting in. At this point, we went for more drinks and decided to do some people watching, before heading back to our cozy bed for the next few nights.

Have you been to Edinburgh? What was our favorite part of the buzzing city?
