LIFESTYLE | MAIZY KITTY LITTER REVIEW

It's no secret that I love my cats, and I'm a husband away from being a crazy cat lady. As any cat owner knows, as much as you love your feline companions, they can be a bit naughty / annoying/stubborn sometimes.

I was asked to review some Maizy Cat Litter*, as the name suggests it is made of 100% puffed corn kernels making it completely natural. On top of that it is compost-able, flushable and biodegradable. It is also unltra absorbent, omits minimal odour and free from additives or perfumes.

Before I talk about the product I feel I need to add some context. Sega, our first kitty, was bought by me from a colleague at a temp job 5ish years ago. When I got her we were told she was nine weeks old. We heavily suspect that that is not true. She has shown several signs that she was taken away from her mother too early. When we first got her she repeatedly attempted to suckle on Joes nipples, since then she has demonstrated that she was never taught to sharpen her claws and has toilet issues.

When I say she has toilet issues oddly, when she does to the loo outiside she digs a hole like a normal cat, Instead of doing her buisness in said hole, she rest her paws in it goes to the loo and covers the hole. She's kinda missed the point.

She also wees on the floor almost daily and flat out refuses to use the litter tray. Usually it occurs at night when we close the flap, but she also does it if it is raining because she doesn't want to go outside. We have a litter tray, Tobias only uses it if he is ill, otherwise, like most normal cats he goes outside. The tray is emptied regularly despite no one using it, we have tried all types of kitty litter/newspapers, got new trays, moved it about the flat and nothing ever made a difference.

So imagine the epic surprise I had when the Maizy Cat Litter arrived and Sega (who is usually scared of things like opening packets) gets all inquisitive about the bag. She usually only gets like this when I am cooking! Then again she loves popcorn, goes crazy for it so maybe it was the smell that attracted her.

But then when I changed the litter over in the tray she immediately walked over to it got in and went to the loo! Queue the Hallelujah Chorus. She has been using it sporadically in the last month and so far I have noticed no unpleasant urine smells.

Oddly *touches wood* in the three weeks since we got back from the cattery she hasn't had an accident once!

LIFESTYLE | For the love of Cats

Hubs and I have just got back from celebrating my parents 30th wedding anniversary in Estepona, Spain. Prior to leaving we had a bit of a kitty dilemma. What were we going to do with the cats while we are away?

A few years ago we went to Spain and Hub’s mum was popping in and feeding our feline family, Sega the long haired black and white female and Tobias the short haired male. While Sega could probably quite happily live out the rest of her days with no human contact accept at meal times, Tobias is a very affectionate cat and loves to be around humans.

As a result, after four days of us being away Tobias went on the run. When we got back three days later Hub’s mum had still not seen him and we were beside ourselves with worry. Hubs especially, as he is a big old softy when it comes to the cats, he even gives them a Sunday treat. Luckily, we found him a week later thanks to the “Missing” posters we had plastered around the local area (this was funded by our Pet Insurance thank goodness). Tobias had dropped a significant amount of weight since he had been away, was covered in scratches from cat fights and needed a lot of treatment from the vet.

Since then we have been putting them in the cattery while we are away to save the stress of leaving/losing them. Unfortunately, Hubs being Hubs, he left it until the last minute to book and we were having trouble placing them.

We had to seriously consider leaving them at home again with someone popping in to feed them which was a terrifying notion. None of our friends that we asked were available to flat/cat sit but we were looking at one of those pet sitting agencies. I have to admit that both these options were appealing as they are a lot cheaper than placing them in a cattery.

But Hubs was not happy with either of these ideas, if either cat was to go missing again and needed vet treatment this could cost us more in the long run with higher renewal costs and excess fees. Also, we didn't really like the idea of a stranger living in the house, and what if they were to break or steal something?

Luckily, in the 11th hour one of the catteries had a cancellation and managed to fit us in. Despite, the fact that they are in a bit of a mood with us now we are back, the cost of them staying at the cattery was really worth the peace of mind.

Another week has gone past, they seem to be going so quickly and my time for blogging seems non existent. Once you break the routine of blogging regularly it can be ridiculously hard to get back to it. I've had a truly awesome week. I'm feeling so happy these days, that this morning I realised how far I have come and how much I have grown.
Gala Darling is a fantastic blogger who preaches about self love, and I think it is important that you realise how amazing you are in order to be happy. It is all to easy to worry about conforming to an idea or trying to please someone else.
A few years ago I was really unhappy, in order to move forward I made myself a list of things that I personally wanted to achieve and have started working towards all of them. I haven't  completed them all and some are long term goals. The list will never be completely achieved because as I grow my dreams will change, but I feel by having these goals and knowing what I want makes me feel like I am moving forward, rather than treading water.

Hope you have a lovely weekend.

LIFESTYLE | ....and so I begin

This is the start of my new blog.  I've started writing again as I have a few interesting ideas which I will share with you in some future posts.

To be honest, I don't really know how to start this, it's always odd to write these things about yourself without sounding really self absorbed, so here are 10 facts about myself instead.

1. I have 2 cats, they are called Sega and Tobias.

Image: emilyonasunday
2. Harry Potter is my guilty pleasure, I watch the films, read the books and listen to Stephen Fry read them all the time.

Yes I know I am too old but frankly I don't care, I love escaping to JK Rowling's amazing fantasy world.

3. I'm British and Persian. I say Persian, to be more specific Iranian. I have never been to Iran, but I will one day.

4. I love leopard print and skulls.

5. Brighton is my hometown, but I live in Hove (actually).

6. One day I want to travel across the U.S of A to see Miami, Los Angeles, New York, West Chester, Jersey Shore (I am not ashamed), Salem and obviously Las Vegas.

10 Things I Hate About You
7. I love watching films, to be honest it doesn't really matter what it is! I love 80's films at the moment, but the best films are those I watched in my teens. They seem to stick with you.

8. I have a vegetable patch in my garden where we grow potatoes, tomatoes, onions and herbs. ( I say WE, I mean my boyfriend)

9. If you didn't guess I LOVE watching trash TV. Some of my favorites are Gossip GirlOne Tree HillJersey Shore90210Make It or Break It and Veronica Mars the list could go on (and on).
Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis

10. I try to remind myself everyday that "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent." - Jacqueline Lee Bouvier Kennedy Onassis.

So that really sums me up.. well not at all. Like most people I am a bit more complex than the 10 random facts listed here and hopefully that will become more apparent the more I write!

Anyway I will post tomorrow with my first project which I am calling 30 Days No Heat.
